Shared Pathway Opens at Halpine Lake
On Saturday the 5th of September, the long-awaited path
around Halpine Lake opened. Locals eagerly watched
as the path was constructed and were thrilled when the
fencing finally came down.
The path is already proving popular among families and
is wide enough for prams, scooters and cyclists. Local
resident, and avid walker, Genelle Stamp was happy to see
the path complete, ‘I enjoy walking around the local area,
especially by the lake. It is so much better now the path
joins up and goes the whole way round. The kids love it
too, and often bring their scooters along.’
The shared pathway and bridge now connects Jasper Place
to the Mango Hill train station, which has considerably
shortened the commute for some pedestrians accessing
the station. A pathway, which is just over 1.2km long, now
spans the perimeter of Halpine Lake. It runs along the back
of the Mango Hill train station, behind the childcare centre,
along the top of the lake, down Topaz Drive and Jasper
Place, before passing over the newly constructed bridge
(just before the railway underpass), which then takes
you back to the train station. The circuit can be enjoyed
in both directions and joins with a network of other local
footpaths.
There are plenty of opportunities to rest along the way,
with seating near the back of the station and part way
around the lake. You will also be able to stop and say hello
to the resident white goose, the Black Swan family, cute
ducks as well as a variety of other wildlife.
After nearly 50 years serving the community,
the Redcliffe War Memorial Pool was in need
of some TLC.
Redcliffe Pool Receives some Maintenance works commenced in May this
year, but the construction crew on site has
much needed TLC advised additional repairs are needed.
“Given the pool opened in 1971, it’s not
surprising that it’s showing its age in places,”
said Moreton Bay Mayor Peter Flannery.
“However with summer approaching my
priority is to ensure works on the indoor
50-metre pool are finished come January 2021,
even if works on the indoor 18-metre pool may
take a while longer.
“I want to thank the community for their
patience while the pool remains closed, I
certainly hope to see the outdoor pool in use
again this summer.
“We started works reapplying grout to tiles
and replacing cracked or damaged tiles during
the COVID-19 forced closure period to try to
avoid disruptions for pool users.
“However, the contractors have discovered
that additional works are required as the
concrete under the tiles was wet and now all
the tiles must be replaced.”
Council’s seasonal pools, including the
Deception Bay Pool, have reopened for the
summer season.
