Dear Readers, CONTENTS

Welcome to the final edition of Best Of Local Moreton
Bay for 2021, covering December and January. Just
when you thought 2020 would be the year to say ‘good 5 TAWNY TRAILS LAUNCH DAY
       riddance’ to, along came 2021.

This year many new terms came into regular use by 6 MANGO HILL NEWS
government and/or the lay person, such as ‘greater
freedoms’, ‘digital passport’, ‘medical apartheid’ and ‘herd immunity’. 10 SEQ’S $40B ENGINE ROOM
For some people, 2021 has been a year of reassurance and confidence, but also
frustration. Their trust in government authority and the science of modern medicine
has come to the rescue and to them, the opportunity for protection is now upon us, 12 WATERPLAY IN MORETON BAY
however some believe a small minority are dragging their feet and not ‘getting with
the program’, preventing us from reaching herd immunity, putting all of our lives at 16 WINNER: BEST ECONOMIC PLAN
risk, as well as delaying the freedom promised by the government. Many of them
expect to see restrictions on this small minority and feel confident that their beliefs are
backed by modern science and the government. 15 SAVE NORTH LAKES GOLF COURSE

For others, the year has been fraught with fear and difficulty of all sorts, and a very 20 THE CONVERSATION
big ‘wake-up call’, believing that their government cannot be trusted and could use
fear in society to their advantage by introducing mandates and attempting to bring
into law, powers to prevent or heavily restrict their societal engagement, family visits, 24 RECIPES
freedom of movement and in plenty of cases, their very ability to provide for their
family, (ie: their dignity). These people have become disillusioned with authority 25 DEAR ALICE
and now feel threatened and rather fearful of it. They also have many unanswered
questions that they feel can’t freely be asked, and so for these people, freedom
already no longer exists. 26 HOROSCOPES

Either way you look at it, or even if you sit somewhere in between, whether you see for 28 PUZZLES
example, a digital passport to ‘prove who you are’, as a threat or not, the free society
to which we were accustomed, currently does not exist. It has been replaced with
restrictions for all, fear mongering, divisive speak in the media and new mandates to 29 TRADES & SERVICES
provide government at all levels with greater power over our lives. Further to this, as a
people we have become more divided than ever. Unfortunately, not a proud year. 31 LOCAL CONTACTS
