With the arrival of Summer and the warmer weather there has never a
better time to change up your regular walking route and head to the
water. With many lakes, creeks and bays in the region, there are countless
stunning walking spots to take advantage of. Not only will you get your
steps up, but you can also enjoy a cool breeze and a pretty outlook.
So lace up your shoes, put on your hat and check out some of these
awesome walks by the water in Moreton Bay.
Deception Bay Heritage Trail
If you are after a side of history with your walk by the water, then look no
further than the Deception Bay Heritage Trail. The 4km waterfront walk
takes visitors on a historic trail, where unique sculptural markers identify
places of importance. Beginning at the corner of Beach Road and Joseph
Crescent, the trail, consisting of pathways and boardwalks, meanders
down Captain Cook Parade toward the southern end of the Esplanade.
With bench seats, picnic spots and viewing platforms, this peaceful walk
will afford you views across Moreton Bay and the changing tides of the
foreshore.
Bullocky Rest, Joyner
Bullocky Rest is a haven set among the trees on the banks of Lakes
Samsonvale, where families can spend hours exploring nature. Known as a
popular picnic spot among locals, Bullocky Rest has picnic shelters, BBQ’s,
toilet facilities, a playground and plenty of space to set up a picnic blanket.
After you have filled your tummies, be sure to explore the area further.
There is a walking trail which goes from the Bullocky Rest picnic area to
Forgan Cove (4.2km one-way) but if you are after a shorter walk, simply
turn around when you reach Forgan Park. But don’t just walk, make sure
you take the time to soak in the surrounds, and look for wildlife. Koalas
frequent the trees near the picnic tables, so bring your binoculars and see
if you can spot one of these cuddly creatures.
Centenary Lakes Park, Caboolture
Get your steps up walking the 2.1km trail around the tranquil Centenary
Lakes. Part of the Centenary Lakes Community and Sport Complex, the
trail takes you around the lake, behind the sports centre and through Apex
Park. Popular among photographers and wildlife spotters, the park is also a
great place for families to explore as there are playgrounds, picnic facilities
and outdoor exercise equipment - there is even an off-leash dog park for
your four-legged friend – the dog!
Bongaree Waterfront Walk
Stroll along the waterfront at Bongaree on Bribie Island to relax and learn
the history of the area. Sixteen heritage plaques are dotted along the path
which leads from the shops on Welsby Parade, past the Jetty and down to
the carpark on South Esplanade. If you are after more of a history lesson,
and have an hour or so to spare, then you may be interested in the self-
guided Bongaree ‘Walkabout’ which starts and finishes at the Bongaree
Jetty and ventures a little further around the Bongaree area. But of course,
if you just want to wander and eat ice-cream, it is the perfect spot to do
that too.
