Walks by the Water
in Moreton Bay
Redcliffe Foreshore
Sparkling waters shimmering in the sun makes Redcliffe Foreshore a
picturesque place to get some exercise, wind down after a busy day or
stroll with family and friends. Not only is there natural beauty to gaze at,
but there are also many places of interest to entertain and amuse visitors
such as the Redcliffe Jetty, Bee Gees Way, Settlement Cove Lagoon, Suttons
Beach and, if you visit on a Sunday, the Redcliffe Markets. If you are
looking for a structured route with fascinating details of Redcliffe’s past you
can follow the Redcliffe Esplanade Walk, the Convict Trail or the Redcliffe
Foreshore Public Art Trail.
Ted Smout Memorial Bridge
The 2.7km long Ted Smout Memorial Bridge, spans across Bramble Bay,
linking Clontarf and Brighton and providing the perfect way for locals to
get some exercise by the water. Opened in 2010, the bridge is a popular
location for both walkers and cyclists. The 4.5m wide path can be accessed
from either Clontarf or Brighton, with parking available near either end
of the bridge. Whether you choose to walk part the way, or undertake a
return journey, you can always enjoy water views, which are particularly
stunning at sunrise and sunset. You may even spot a lucky fisherman
reeling in a catch at one of the fishing platforms. There are plenty of shops
at the Clontarf end where you can reward yourself with a cold drink or
ice-cream, or perhaps the kids would like to enjoy a play at the super fun
Decker Park (they have toilets too).
Lake Eden, North Lakes
If you are after a walking circuit that offers a café, playground, water views
and wildlife then Lake Eden is your place. The 1.8km path, also used for
Parkrun on Saturday mornings, follows the banks of the Lake, with many
parts shaded by the well-established trees. The Lake Eden circuit is perfect
for families and those with mobility aides, as it is relatively flat, wide and
made of concrete. If you want to break up the walk, stop off at one of the
playgrounds, enjoy a picnic or have a snack at the Boardwalk café which
overlooks the lake. Wildlife spotting is also fun, especially when you are
confronted with water dragons on the path. Eels, turtles and majestic black
swans also call Lake Eden home, so bring your camera and see if you can
snap a picture of them.
Capestone Lake, Mango Hill
Strap on your walking shoes and soak up the serenity as you stroll around
the 2.5km circuit at Capestone Lake. Popular among locals at any time of
the day (though sunrise is particularly beautiful), there are playgrounds to
enjoy, a dog park for your furry friend and the Capestone Village shops to
browse. It is also a great opportunity to catch up with family and friends
while you relax at one of the eateries overlooking the lake.
