Returning to our Community

                              Hall - June Meeting Report

Community spirit is alive and well! On 15th June we returned to our Community Hall after two months of flood related renovations
and it was like we had never left. It was terrific to have some 38 residents and guests attend our first monthly meeting back at the
hall. Whilst the best part of the night was catching up with neighbours and friends and enjoying supper & each other’s company,
there was first the serious business of receiving reports as well as learning and discussing various activities in the local community.

Flood Recovery Action: State Member Chris Whiting reported on his visit to the Village
on 2nd June with Major General Ellwood of the Queensland Reconstruction Authority
along with Deputy Mayor, Councillor Jodie Shipway. They met up with a number of
residents in Mary & Rose Streets who had been adversely affected by the February flood.
Chris indicated that it was quite sobering to speak with residents and to see so many
       houses empty and awaiting repairs.

Flood-affected residents can now apply for funds to repair, retrofit, raise or buy-back
eligible properties. I encourage locals in the most vulnerable houses to go online and
look at putting in an application.
Affected residents can register their interest in the Resilient Homes Fund at:

Chris also reported on the planning of the Fire Station design which must occur prior
to any construction for which funds will be provided in the 2022-23 State Budget. No
doubt, there will be a keen eye kept on the progress of planning for our Fire Station.

                             COUNCILLOR’S REPORT

Danzy Buchanan Park Drainage: Councillor Jodie Shipway reported (by way of correspondence) that
Councils engineers are still assessing the best possible option for management of the drainage through
North Lakes Reserve to Saltwater Creek and will advise the Association once Council has a solution to the
                             drainage concerns.

Traffic Safety Issues: Councillor Shipway has advised that 50KPH
speed zone signs will be installed soon along the new Chelmsford
Road connection with Kinsellas Rd West. This follows representations
by the Association for Council to
consider a 50kph speed zone for
the full length of Kinsellas Rd West
                                                         given the significant increase in
                                                         unit development prior to the
                                                         Lamington Road roundabout and
                                                         the subsequent increase in traffic
seeking access to Kinsellas Rd West
                                                         from these developments.
