as Last of Acreage Block Trees Fall

These latest properties to be cleared will soon join the Phillip
Usher Developments that will commence later in 2023 for
completion over the next 2-3 years.

Only the Hamilton Road “Tree preservation” Corridor will remain
as a Fauna link to the Green Belt around the Village. (see next
       article)

Only last week, the last two acreage blocks along Kinsellas Rd
West, formerly owned by the Struck and Martin families (with
many large gum trees), were cleared.

As with so many communities, the past 50 years have seen
massive development of what were deemed “acreage living”
into medium to high density housing enclaves, changing the
landscape of the local community forever.

For the Progress Association of the 1990s, the challenge was to
maintain a green corridor around the village when the future
North Lakes was being planned. We were successful in our efforts
and in 1996, what was then named the Mango Hill Development
Control Plan (now North Lakes) included that green belt.

In the early 2000s when it became apparent that even the
internal acreage blocks along Kinsellas Rd West were being
planned for medium density housing, the Progress Association
advocated for what was then “Hamilton Road” to be designated
a “Corridor to be Preserved (a Pathway Reserve”), a request
that was approved by the former Pine Rivers Shire Council in
2004. (See Mango Hill News snippet of November 2004 and an
