Local Resident, Ken Hatchman recognised
with Park Naming
At their meeting on August 21st, Councillors of City of Moreton Bay
conditionally supported a recommendation from the Mango Hill
Progress Association to name the unnamed park, currently referred
to as “Heathcote Ave Park,” located on the boundary of North Lakes
and Mango Hill Village, to “Ken Hatchman Park.” This naming honours
Ken Hatchman’s extensive community service to not only the
local community, but to many Queenslanders. Council’s support is
contingent upon a 28-day advertising period during which properly
made submissions will be reviewed.
At the Progress Association meeting that same night, Councillor
Shipway read the citation contained in the Council General Meeting
minutes of that morning, which outlined the exemplary and
dedicated community service that Ken Hatchman had given, over a
period of more than 50 years, including a wonderful teaching career,
Apex Service Clubs and Mango Hill/Mango Hill Progress Association,
where he is a long-time resident and a life member.
In a very moving and humble response, Ken Hatchman thanked all
present, insisting that the honour was indeed due not only to him, but
also to his colleagues, particularly those in the Progress Association
with whom he has volunteered, for over the past 30 years.
The Mango Hill Progress Association considers that the naming
of Ken Hatchman Park reflects the character of a very humble, yet
selfless community volunteer.
A further announcement will be made after Council’s community
consultation period.

Rapid Change
It was only 5 years ago that this aerial map of the entry to Mango Hill contained
6 houses. By 2027, there will be over 400 units, in addition to the current 450
units either in place or under construction across Kinsellas Rd West.
The completion of the Mango Hill Ring Road (connection of Lamington Road
to Anzac Ave) is expected by Christmas 2024, and cannot come soon enough!
Perhaps the only wildlife left in this former leafy acreage section will be the local
ducks.
