MANGO HILL FLOODS AGAIN
27th February 2022
Just 7 years after the 2015 “Rainbomb” which delivered 340mm
in just 4 hours to Mango Hill & South East Queensland, Mother
Nature was at it again on Sunday 27th February with 5 days of
almost continuous rain periods.
With 1215mm of rain falling in this period (including over
600mm during Thursday/Friday), memories of 1st May 2015
were revisited with trepidation by local residents. This time,
waters rose suddenly on the Sunday, to an even higher level than
2015 with additional homes and the Mango Hill Community
Hall suffering significant damage. Around midday on Sunday, it
appeared Mango Hill had “dodged the worst” as radar showed
Caloundra in sunshine and the north-east sky over Redcliffe
appearing lighter. But that was a false hope. Further storms
generated from Tewantin to Brisbane and sadly over the border
to Lismore. With the rain pelting down for hours, the Premier
announced a “rain train” had moved in a southerly flow.
By 4.00pm Sunday afternoon, waters had risen 300mm above ASSISTANCE BY NEIGHBOURS:
